Social Studies Rules

Without a doubt my favorite subject in school was social studies. It inspired me to go to school to become a teacher. All of my favorite teachers were my social studies and history teachers.

My 8th grade teacher Mr. Hull was my favorite. He had this amazing way to get us to read the newspaper and watch the news. Every Friday for three weeks of the month we had current events. We had a teams and he asked us questions about from the news. He kept score and if we got it wrong or no one knew the answer he would write down the question. The fourth week of every month we had to a test on all the questions we did not get right. He never told us the answer he made us go and find it.

I remember begging Grandma to let me watch the news every night so I would have the edge for my team to win. He kept the scoreboard up on the bulletin board in the classroom. We talked about it all week, we looked forward to Friday’s and you were never ever sick on Friday.

I had other history and social studies teachers that were just as amazing. They gave us cool assignments like design your own prison and write a paper about why you designed it that way. The projects my teachers gave me showed me my political views, inspired me to want to be come a teacher, and inspired me to major in political science.

I hope you two have amazing teachers who teach you about subjects you want to learn about.

Sounds like you had some great teachers who were memorable and gave meaningful projects to do. That makes a huge difference, doesn’t it? I had a sixth grade teacher who did a fabulous job teaching social studies. Actually wanted to become an archaeologist because of her.

These teachers were such a huge inspiration to me. I remember so many of then projects they had me do. I think it also really helped inform me of my political beliefs and what I thought really mattered.
