This is a pretty impossible question and your Dad and I were just talking about this last night. I have favorite songs for different moods but here are my top 10 favorite songs and why:
The World Has Turned and Left Me Here by Weezer The title of the song paints a depressing picture but the sound of the song gets me every time. I first heard this song when I was in college and it is one of the first songs I play when I want to go to older songs in my iTunes account. I am a huge fan of Weezer to and this is my favorite song by them.
#41 by Dave Matthews Band I was a huge fan of Dave Matthews, went to tons of shows when I was younger and this was the song I always had my fingers crossed to hear. I really love that song!
Sabatoge by the Beastie Boys Lots of people in my generation love the Beastie Boys and many of them will list other songs but this video was amazing, I loved it! The song itself gets you so pumped… if I was a runner I am pretty sure this would be the first song on my running play list.
Love is Blindness version by Jack White I have to admit I am late the love affair with Jack White, people have loved him for years but I have recently fallen hard for him. This is an amazing song, I heard it in the trailer for a movie I think I will love The Great Gatsby that comes out in December of this year with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey McGuire. The version of this song is amazing!!! I put the link to this song because you really have to hear it.
Adagio for Strings I like classical music but I like it for what it makes me imagine. If I were ever to write a script for a movie I would write it to classical music. I have always been captivated by the music in movie trailers and in movies, they are part of the story. This particular classical song reminds me of so many difficult scenes for characters in a movie that I cannot help but feel emotion when hearing it. So if you hear me listening to a lot of classical music you know I am finally writing a screenplay.
Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff Yup I followed up my favorite classical song with this one. The first warm day of spring this song goes on the radio in the car and the windows go down. It is an amazing feeling driving to this song with the windows down and the sun roof open… you two will know this song well.
Golden Slumbers-> Carry That Weight by the Beatles What list would be complete without a Beatles song on it. I love the way this song builds up… many of my favorite songs follow this musical prescription of starting off slow and building up. I also like Norwegian Wood too.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo-ole I listened to this song so much when I was pregnant with both of you. For some reason I imagined it playing at both your weddings… sounds hokey and weird but I did. It is a very happy sounding song.
99 Problems by JayZ That is right kids I have an interest in rap music and I think Jay Z is a genius. That is all I am going to say about my love of rap because most rap songs are inappropriate for children.
Waste Performed with Trey from Phish and Dave Matthews This was your Dad and my wedding song. The words really meant a lot to the two of us, it is about the person you want to spend time doing nothing with. It is particularly meaningful that the song was written by Trey from Phish (your Dad’s favorite band) and sung by Dave Matthews my favorite artist. No one could think of a better wedding song for us.
